Srinagar, Apr 28 — The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted one-week interim bail to jailed Member of Parliament Er Abdul Rashid Sheikh to visit his ailing father in Srinagar.
The court observed that Rashid has been in custody for over six years and termed it a fit case for interim relief. “After going through records, the court is of the opinion that this is a fit case for grant of interim bail for one week,” it said.
The bail comes with conditions, including a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and a surety of the same amount. The court directed that he will be accompanied by two police officials and remain either at his residence or the hospital where his father is admitted, with the address to be shared with authorities.
It also ordered that he shall not move freely, will use only one mobile number kept switched on, and must not contact or influence any witness. No visitors other than immediate family members will be allowed.
The court said the expenses related to the arrangement will be borne by the National Investigation Agency.
Rashid, founder of the Awami-e-Ittihad Party and a former MLA from Langate, has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019 following his arrest by the NIA in a militancy funding case.
