Death Toll Reaches 1000 In Earthquake Hit Afghanistan

The death toll has reached to 1000 as an earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday night, more than 1500 people are injured, as per the updated reports by BBC.

Earlier, 280 were reported dead, however, the Taliban government had said that the death toll may rise as several people are seriously injured. 
 
Footage revealed that people are being airlifted from the affected area and many were even being treated on ground. Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesperson of the Taliban government urged international rescue teams to send help immediately, according to a report in The Hindu.
 
It is one of the worst earthquakes in the country in two decades.
 
The powerful earthquake struck shortly after 01:30 (21:00 GMT Tuesday) when people were slept. 
 
With an epicentre of about 44 km from Khost city in Afghanistan and at a depth of 51 km, the earthquake killed and injured thousands and destroyed hundreds of houses.
