Earthquake Kills 280 People In Afghanistan

An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude killed at least 280 people in Afghanistan on early Wednesday. 

Taliban government said that the death toll may rise as several people are seriously injured
 
With an epicentre of about 44 km from Khost city in Afghanistan and at a depth of 51 km, the earthquake killed and injured hundreds of civilians countrymen and destroyed dozens of houses. 
 
Photographs available on social media showed destroyed stone houses, rubble and ruined homes in Paktika province near the Pakistan border.
 
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the tremours were also felt in parts of Pakistan and India. 
 
The Taliban government spokesman Bilal Karimi have urged agencies for international aid to assit the victim. 
 
"Unfortunately, last night there was a severe earthquake in four districts of Paktika province killing hundreds and injuring thousands," he said. 
 
"We urge all aid agencies to send teams to the area immediately to prevent further catastrophe", he added.
