Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir’s National Conference (NC) Vice President and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir state, Omar Abdullah on Wednesday claimed that 80% population of J&K was disappointed by BJP and voiced against the “deteriorating security situation.”
He criticized the government for making baseless statements and diverting attention from pressing issues by referring to the recent statement made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for claiming that “80% of people” in the “Union Territory,”which has been without an elected government since 2018, are happy with the central rule.
Addressing a gathering in Jammu, Omar said that the resurgence of militancy in areas previously considered safe is concerning. He pointed out recent attacks and encounters in Rajouri, Pir Panchal, and Srinagar, emphasizing that the government's focus on tourism and G20 events is overshadowing the safety of its citizens.
Omar also questioned the government's stance on Article 370 abrogation. While the decision was initially presented as a means to integrate J&K with India, conflicting statements from government officials have left the public confused about the actual intent.
“While the government lawyers in the Supreme Court (SC) recently stated that the decision was necessary as the people were feeling isolated than other people of the country. the LG Manoj Sinha in Uttar Pradesh says that he will return to Bihar only after merging J&K with the union of India, it is hard to understand whom shall we believe now,” he added.
Regarding the plight of daily wage laborers, Omar pledged that if the NC comes to power, they will be regularized. He expressed concern that elections are being delayed due to the widespread disillusionment among the people, citing grievances ranging from smart meters to unemployment.
Omar Abdullah asserted that the majority of the population is dissatisfied with the BJP's governance, and he called for elections to address the prevailing issues.
