Court Asks If Demolitions In Muslim Majority Nuh Were ‘An Act Of Ethnic Cleansing’

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked whether the recent demolitions of homes and businesses predominantly owned by Muslim residents in Haryana’s Nuh were “an exercise of ethnic cleansing.”

The court issued an order to halt the demolition of properties in Nuh district, questioning whether these actions, carried out under the pretext of maintaining “law and order,” are actually a form of ethnic cleansing by the state.

The court also noted that the demolitions were conducted without following proper legal procedures and without providing prior notices to property owners, Live Law reported.

This follows reports of numerous houses and shops being demolished by the BJP-led government in Haryana's Muslim-majority Nuh district.

In recent times, various human rights organizations have criticized the BJP for frequently using Bulldozer Justice as a tactic against dissenters.

Reportedly, the demolition drive was started after communal clashes erupted during a Hindu procession.
