‘Don’t Expect Support For NATO If You Disrespect Islam’: Turkiye To Sweden

As supporters of Rasmus Paludan, leader of Danish far-right political party, Hard Line burned the holy Quran outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm two days ago; Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Sweden that they should not expect his country to support their bid for NATO membership as long as they do not respect Islamic beliefs, reported Anadolu.

"Those who caused such a disgrace in front of our embassy should not expect any benevolence from us on their NATO membership applications," Erdogan said after a cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday.

"The heinous action in Sweden is an insult to everyone who respects the fundamental rights and freedoms of people, especially Muslims."

No one, he added, has the freedom to insult the sanctities of Muslims or any other religions.

"Those who allow such blasphemy in front of our embassy (in Stockholm) can no longer expect our support for their NATO membership,” he added.

Protest erupted in Sweden after the desecration of Quran with many arrested by sweden police and several Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Kuwait denouncing the blasphemy.

Sweden and Finland applied last year to join NATO following Russia's invasion of Ukraine but all 30 member states must approve their bids.

Turkiye had already summoned Sweden's Ambassador about the incident, cancelled a planned visit by Swedish Defence Minister to Ankara (Turkiye’s capital) and strongly condemned the desecration.

Muslim all the over world believe that the Islamic holy book Quran is (Kalamulla) the words of Allah and the almighty talks to the believers through the medium.
