Two Killed, 42 Injured as Bus Plunges into Gorge in Mendhar

Mendhār, May 6 — Two people were killed and 42 others sustained injuries after a passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a gorge in the Ghani area of Mendhar, Poonch district, on Tuesday morning.
 
According to officials, the bus (registration number JK02X-1671) was travelling from Ghani when the driver reportedly lost control with the vehicle skidding off the road and falling into a deep gorge.
 
“Two passengers died on the spot while 42 others were injured in the mishap,” an official told GNS. 
 
Responding swiftly, teams from the police, military and local residents launched a rescue operation, evacuating the injured from the site.
 
Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Mendhar, confirmed the deaths, stating, “Two people were brought dead. We have received 42 others with injuries, out of whom five are in critical condition.”
 
The critically injured have been referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri for advanced medical care, he added.
 

Police have registered a case and initiated further proceedings into the incident.
