Two ‘Hybrids’ Held With 15 Pistols In Srinagar Amid TRF Letter

Srinagar: Two ‘Hybrid’ militants were arrested of outfit The Resistance Front (an offshoot of Lashkar-i-Toiba) in Chanapora area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Monday, police said.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said LeT/TRF ‘hybrid’ militants were arrested from Chanapora area of Srinagar.

“They were planning for target killings as 15 pistols were recovered from their possession which have been used in ‘hit and run cases’. These kind of modules will be busted continuously in future too,” the top cop added.

IGP also called it as a big success for police.

In a tweet Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar, the Kashmir Police Zone said Srinagar Police arrested 2 local hybrid militants of militant outfit LeT/TRF.

“Incriminating materials, arms & ammn including 15 pistols, 30 magazines, 300 rounds & 1 silencer recovered. Case registered,” reads the tweet.

“Investigation going on and it’s a big success for Police,” it added.

Hybrid' militants is a newly coined term in the history of Kashmir militancy, which according to poilce are undercover Militants and carry out attacks like sleeper cells.

According to Indian Army, TRF (The resistance Front) was formed after the semi-autonomus status (Article 370 and Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution) was scrapeed in 2019 when itused encrypted messaging app, Telegram, by claiming responsibility for a grenade attack on 12 October 2019, at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk.

Moreover, the arrests have come after TRF issued a letter stating threat ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.

In a letter, the group wrote, "They [government] are going to use Amarnath Yatra for their dirty politics. From mere 15,000 to 8 lakh pilgrim registrations and from 15 days to 80 days is just to provoke the sensitivity of Kashmir situation. It has come to our knowledge that this fascist regime is pumping RSS sanghis into the Valley in the name of Amarnath Yatra."
