Kupwara: Three persons have been arrested under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1988 (PIT NDPS) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday and shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu, according to officials.

They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Hajam, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Chek Halmatpora; Azad Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Ahmad, a resident of Chalgund Haihama; and Waseem Ahmad Shah, son of Habibullah, a resident of Harkarpora Awoora.

An official said: “three persons were detained under the PIT NDPS Act for their deep involvement in drug related activities".

“We will make sure that the district is drug-free zone sooner than later,” added the official.
