CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland, Jan 1 — At least 10 people were killed and scores injured after an explosion at a bar in the Swiss Alps during New Year celebrations early Thursday, authorities said.
The blast occurred around 1:30 a.m. at Le Constellation, a popular bar in Crans-Montana, police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion told reporters.
“More than a hundred people were in the building,” he said.
A fire broke out following the explosion, and emergency services rushed to the scene to treat burn victims. The area has been cordoned off, and a temporary no-fly zone has been imposed over the resort, officials said.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with authorities yet to confirm whether it was accidental or deliberate. Police said multiple victims are receiving treatment in local hospitals.
