Srinagar: India’s Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea challenging the abrogation of Article 370, 35A for hearing after the Hindu festival Dussehra i.e. after 9 October as the holiday break will remain from 3 to 9 October.

Senior vice president ANC (Awami National Conference) Muzzafar Shah said that the mentioning for early listing of 370 was done before the Chief Justice of India today.

“The Hon’ble CJI indicated that the matter is being considered and he will go through the application,” he said.

“We are to await his directions for consideration,” he added.

Article 370 of the Indian Constitution gave autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir which was unilaterally scrapped by the central government led BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party)  on 5 August 2019 and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories.

Various petitions were filed and are pending before the top court that challenges the validity of the law scrapping Article 370. However, the Supreme Court hasn’t heard any petition since three years.

Later, some more petitions were filed against the delimitation in accordance with the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019.
