Shiva’s Holy Mace Reaches Shankarcharya Temple In Srinagar As Hindu Festivity Begins

Chhari-Mubarak - the holy mace of Hindu God Shiva and Goddess Parvati has reached to Srinagar’s historic place Shankaracharya (aka Takht-e-Sulaiman) on Thursday for prayers on the occasion of ‘Haryali-Amavasya’ (observance of amavasya (new moon) in the Shravan month of the Hindu calendar) as per the Hindu customs and traditions.

People associated with the occasion said that the prayers (Puja) was performed by chanting Vedic hymns of the Hindu religion.

They said that number of Sadhus and pilgrims participated in the prayers and prayed for peace and prosperity of the country and Jammu and Kashmir.

The mace will leave Dashnami Akhara in Srinagar for the Amarnath shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas on August 2.

Hindu Saint Dependra Giri, the custodian of the holy mace said that after the Shankracharya temple, the mace will be taken to Sharika Bhawani which is located at old city’s Hari Parbat next day, before rituals for Chhari Sthapana are performed at Shri Amareshwar temple in Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar on July 31.

After performing Chhari Pujan at Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar on Nag Panchami (August 2), mahant Deependra Giri will carry the holy mace to Amarnath shrine.

Enroute to the shrine, the mace will halt at Pahalgam on August 7-8, Chandanwari on August 9, Sheshnag and Panchtarani on August 10 and 11, respectively.
