SIT Formed to Probe 14 Deaths in Rajouri

Srinagar/Rajouri, Jan 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have constituted an 11-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the “mysterious deaths” reported in the Budhal area of Rajouri district over the past 45 days.
 
According to an official order, the SIT will be headed by Superintendent of Police (Operations) Budhal, Wajahat Hussain.
 
The team comprises the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Kandi), station house officers of Kandi police station and the women's police station in Rajouri, along with officials and experts from the departments of forensic medicine, toxicology, microbiology, pediatrics, and pathology.
 
The team will also utilize expertise from the food safety, agriculture, Jal Shakti departments, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Jammu, the order stated.
 
"The team will make all sincere efforts to conclude the inquest proceedings at the earliest," it said.
 
At least 14 people have died in the Budhal area of Rajouri due to a “mysterious illness” in the past 45 days, the latest victim being a 6-year-old girl who died while receiving treatment at a local hospital.
