Rishi Sunak To Be UK’s First Indian-Origin PM

Rishi Sunak will be the United Kingdom's next prime minister after winning the Conservative Party leadership contest. He will become the UK's first British Asian PM and the youngest in more than a century at the age of 42.

The development follows weeks of turmoil; Sunak will be the third British premier in two months after Boris Johnson and Liz Truss resigned.

The country's 57th prime minister (by the standard count) The UK's youngest PM since Lord Liverpool came to office in 1812.

Born 12 May 1980, Mr. Sunak is a British politician who has been Leader of the Conservative Party since 24 October 2022.

Sunak was born in Southampton to parents of Punjabi Indian descent who migrated to Britain from East Africa in the 1960s.

He was educated at Winchester College, read philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at Lincoln College, Oxford, and gained an MBA from Stanford University in California as a Fulbright Scholar.

While studying at Stanford, he met his future wife Akshata Murty, the daughter of N. R. Narayana Murthy, the Indian billionaire businessman who founded Infosys.
