Parliament Introduces Bill To Amend J&K’s Local Body Laws

New Delhi: A legislative proposal aiming to revise laws pertaining to local governance bodies, such as Panchayats and Municipal Corporations in Jammu and Kashmir, was presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The bill was introduced by the Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in the ongoing budget session which will end on February 9.

The Jammu and Kashmir Local Bodies Laws (Amendment) Bill of 2024 aims to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, and the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000.

It’s pertinent to mention that these laws, acted as instruments of local self-government in Jammu and Kashmir.

This will be the last session of both houses ahead of the Lok Sabha (Parliamentary) elections scheduled to be held in April-May this year.
