Around 33 million people have been affected - 1,456 have been injured and 982 killed as continuous monsoon rainfall triggering floods hit parts of Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Tribune reported that a 'fresh wave of death and destruction' has hit the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh provinces, where heavy rain continues for a second consecutive day.

Since the summer season began, multiple monsoon cycles have lashed Pakistan, destroying more than 400,000 homes across the country.

As per media reports, the floods washed away houses and other infrastructure; Pakistan's disaster management agency said over 3,000 km of roads, around 150 bridges and nearly seven lakh houses have been washed away or destroyed.

Earlier, climate minister Sherry Rehman said the country was going through its eighth monsoon cycle "while normally the country only has three to four cycles of rain".

“At present, more than half of (the country) is under water and millions of people have been rendered homeless as a result of flash flooding generated by abnormal monsoon rains..." Unprecedented rains have also left over 5.7 million without shelter and food,” Pakistan news website Dawn reported.

The Shehbaz Sharif’s government have urged Army for help for rescue and relief operations and launched a 'flash appeal' to the United Nations after the government declared a 'national emergency'. The UN Central Emergency Response Fund has already allocated $3 million.
