NIA Raids Continue In Khurram’s Alleged NGO Funding Case

Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided at seven locations in the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Budgam, Kupwara, and Pulwama districts, in an alleged NGO funding case.
 
The searches were conducted at the premises of trusts and individuals associated with the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of civil Societies (JKCCS), NIA said in a statement. 
 
As per the case, the NIA has accused Human rights activist Khurram Parvez of “raising funds through his NGO to sustain militancy in Kashmir.” 
 
“Today’s raided locations were linked to the NGO's program coordinator Khurram Parvej and Journalist Irfan Mehraj, who as per the NIA is an associate of Khurram and "helped him by raising funds for JKCCS from various charities abroad and using those funds to incite trouble and support militancy in Jammu and Kashmir."
 
Digital devices and “incriminating documents” related to financial transactions were seized during the raids, it reads. 
 
The case, registered suo moto by the NIA on October 8, 2020, pertains to the activities of certain NGOs, trusts, societies, and organizations collecting funds domestically and abroad to sustain militancy and secessionist activities in Kashmir, it reads further. 
 
The NGO, JKCCS was actively working on a range of human rights issues, including issues related to conflict, violence, and the impact on civilians in the conflict-affected region of Jammu and Kashmir. The organization was known to document alleged human rights abuses, cases of custodial deaths, disappearances, and other violations during the prolonged conflict in the region.
