MeT Forecasts More Rain Across Kashmir Valley

Srinagar: As light rains lashed parts of Kashmir on Saturday, the mercury dropped at several places across the regions of Kashmir valley, Pir Panjal, and Chenab with north Kashmir’s Gulmarg logging minus 0.4°C. Also, the metrological department predicted another wet spell from March 23 to 25 on Sunday afternoon. 

As per reports, Srinagar received 0.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours, Qazigund 15.0mm, Pahalgam 0.5mm, Kupwara 0.7mm, Kokernag 19.8mm, Gulmarag 1.6mm, Banihal 33.2m, Batote 2.4mm, Katra 4.4mm, and Bhaderwah 0.8mm.  

“Generally cloudy weather with light rain is expected at isolated to scattered places in Kashmir Valley in the next 24 hours,” a MeT official said.

“From March 23 to 25, cloudy weather with intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places was expected,” he said.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 5.5°C against 6.8°C on the previous night, above normal by 0.8°C.

In south Kashmir; Qazigund recorded 3.5°C against 3.8°C on the previous night and it was 0.1°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

While the top tourist destination of Pahalgam logged 1.2°C against 2.1°C on the previous night, Kokernag had 4.0°C against 2.1°C.

In North Kashmir’s Gulmarg, the mercury settled at minus 0.4°C against 0.4°C on the previous night and it still was 1.9°C above normal for the world-famous skiing resort and Kupwara logged 4.5°C against 4.8°C on the previous night- above normal by 1.4°C.

Pir panjal’s Banihal recorded a low of 4.2°C (below normal by 0.7°C), Batote 6.3°C (below normal by 0.4°C),) and Chenab region’s Bhadarwah logged 6.5°C (2.6°C above normal).

Jammu recorded 14.2°C against 15.2°C on the previous night- below normal by 0.7°C and Katra logged 11.0°C (1.6°C below normal).

Ladakh’s Leh, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.2°C.
