Kishtwar, Jan 17 — A motorcyclist was killed on the spot after his bike skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Pinjrari area of Dachhan in Chenab region’s Kishtwar district on Saturday, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Majied, a resident of Thakrie in the Sarwana area of Kishtwar.
“A motorcycle lost control, skidded off the road and fell into a gorge, leading to the instantaneous death of the rider,” an official said.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene soon after the incident and launched recovery operations.
“The body was retrieved from the gorge and shifted for medico-legal formalities,” the official added.
Police said preliminary findings point to over-speeding as the cause of the accident. Authorities have advised motorists to drive cautiously on hilly roads, particularly during winter when road conditions can be hazardous.
