Kashmiri Pandits Get Concessions In Admissions Across India

New Delhi: Ministry of Education (MoE) has said that it has allowed certain concessions for the wards of Kashmiri pandits across India in view of their ‘hardships’.

Department of Higher Education and Department of School Education and Literacy for Government of India (GoI) in an annual report 2022-23 mentioned that it has allowed concessions to the Kashmiri pandit students in the matter of their admission in educational institutions in other parts of the country.

“Kashmiri migrants continue to face hardships,” the report said.

Stating the concession for the wards of Kashmiri Migrants, MoE said that the concession was applicable for the wards of Kashmiri migrants as well as Kashmiri Pandits, Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) who are living in the Valley in the matter of their admission to the educational institutions in other parts of the country.

The ministry has stated that it has given ‘relaxation in cut-off percentage up to 10 percent subject to minimum eligibility requirement.’

It also said that the ministry has increased intake capacity up to 5 percent course-wise.

Besides, the ministry has ‘reserved at least one seat in merit quota in technical and professional institutions.’

“Waiving off domicile requirements for Kashmiri Migrants only. Kashmiri Pandits, Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) living in the Kashmiri Valley need domicile certificate,” it reads (SIC).

Stating the supernumerary seats for students from Jammu and Kashmir in all HEIs, MoE further informed that, “Two seats to be created under supernumerary quota in all recognized Higher Education Institutions for students from J&K.
