Israeli police detained the director of Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Omar Kiswani in al-Tur neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem and at least 23 Palestinians were arrested in the Hebron and Jerusalem districts, Wafa News Agency reported.
As per reports, the director of Al - aqsa mosque was released after hours of questioning.
The detention of Kiswani and others is believed to supress people as Jewish festivals are coming when Israeli settlers perform rituals in violation of the decades-long status quo that assert Al-Aqsa Mosque is holy worship place for Muslim, Wafa News Agency reported.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) Israel has detained 4847 Palestinians since the start of this year through the end of August, including 585 minors and 92 women.
Israel also issued 1365 administrative detention orders since the beginning of the year.
