Dehradun: The story of Hindu God, Lord Ram will be made a part of the new syllabus for madrassas (Islamic seminary) affiliated to the Uttarakhand Waqf Board from the new academic session commencing this year.

As per media reports, of the 117 madrassas under the board, the new syllabus will be introduced initially in four madrassas including Uttrakhand’s capital, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

After the recruitment of teachers, it would be taken up in the remaining 113 madrassas, concerned officials said.

"We'll teach the Quran as well as Ramayana. When we can tell our students about Lakshman, who gave up everything for his elder brother, then what is the need to tell them about Aurangzeb, who killed his brothers to get the throne? A proper dress code will also be introduced in the four identified madrassas," Uttarakhand Waqf Board chairman Shadab Shams said.

Shams added that the board would appoint principals for the four madrassas soon.
