International students hailing from various countries including Africa, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan were violently attacked with stones while observing Ramadan Taraweeh prayers in Gujarat University’s hostel, according to reports.
Reports indicate that the students were assaulted by a mob, with stones thrown at them and their hostel premises vandalized.
The attack took place within the confines of the A-Block hostel, designated for international students by the university administration.
Several students sustained injuries in the assault and have been rushed to SVP Hospital for medical treatment.
Hindutva religious slogans were chanted by the assailants as they targeted the students inside the hostel. Videos show the assailants wearing saffron scarfs and smashing the bikes of the students.
Other videos shared by the victim students claim that the police haven't arrested anyone and have let them go.
