At least eight people were killed and 22 others injured in a bomb blast during Muharram Procession in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Saturday.

The attack was carried out on the seventh Muharram and claimed by ‘Islamic State.’

Primary investigations revealed explosives were placed in a vegetable cart, Taliban officials said.

Local sources said women had gathered at the house for mourning as Shia Muslims around the world mourn the events of Karbala during the first 10 days of Muharram, Anadolu Agency reported.

Islamic State had carried out many attacks against Afghanistan minority population and also against the ruling patrols of Taliban.

However, the Taliban officials have ensured safety to the Shia mourners as the Ashura (10th Muharram) is approaching.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and Shia Muslims across the world commemorate the martyrdom of Hussian, Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) grandson, who was killed in the battle of Karbala 1400 years ago.
