The Gangbal pilgrimage is performed mostly by Kashmiri Pandits in which devotees set on 36-km journey on foot to Gangabal lake, which is located around 14,500 feet above sea level in the Harmukh mountain range.

An official said that the Yatra was flagged off by deputy commissioner Ganaderbal, who was accompanied by SSP Ganderbal.

He said that special puja (prayers) was held at the base camp before the pilgrims headed towards Gangbal Lake.

Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir Singh on the side-lines of the ceremony told reporters that this year around 47 pilgrims are taking part in the pilgrimage.

He said that all arrangements have been put in place to make this pilgrimage  safe and successful.
