Bandipora: The residents of Jalalpora, Banyeri area in Hajin village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district expressed dismay over the scarcity of potable drinking water since three months and alleged that the concern department hasn’t paid any attention towards their basic needs.

The villagers said that the Jal-Shakti (water) department has left them on God's mercy as the department has miserably failed to provide drinking water to them.

They said that they have approached the authorities many times and received assurance for regular water supply but no steps has been taken on the ground level.

In this age, our women carry wares on their heads and fetch water from different spots, they said.

“We are being forced to fetch and consume filthy water from a nearby stream as there is no proper drinking water supply in the area,” Fata Begum, a local woman, said.

Head of the water department Mr. Khaliq Qureshi told The Himalayan Post that though the Hajin area comes under Bandipora district, its the water facility is being governed by PHE Sopore.
