Srinagar: In Kashmir, Dry Chillai Kalan is anticipated to persist until January 21, with meteorological officials foreseeing light snowfall in the upper reaches of the valley on January 16th and 17th.

This extended dry period has contributed to an unusual surge in day temperatures and freezing nights across various parts of the valley.

In response to the scarcity of wet spells during this harshest winter period (Chillai-Kalan), the residents organized Salat-ul-Istisqa, prayers for wet spell, seeking relief from the prolonged dry spell.

As per details, Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir logged -4.3 degrees Celsius on the interviewing night of Sunday-Monday.

Qazigund, located in south Kashmir and known as the gateway town, recorded a temperature of -4.2 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the famous tourist resort of Pahalgam saw the mercury plummet to -5.6 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag registered a minimum temperature of -2.0 degrees Celsius.

The Jammu region is currently witnessing cold nights and foggy morning conditions, attributed to a change in the weather pattern over the last few days.
