Colombia, the Latin American country has cut all diplomatic ties with Israel over its war on Gaza which has killed more than 34,596 Palestinians, mostly women and children and injured 77,816 others since October 7.

Speaking to a crowd marking International Workers’ Day in Bogot, the capital city of Colombia on Wednesday, the President, Gustavo Petro announced that all the diplomatic ties with Israel will be cut over Gaza genocide stating that the so-called democratic countries cannot close their eyes over the crisis unfolding in Gaza.

“Here in front of you, the government of change, of the president of the republic, announces that tomorrow we will break diplomatic relations with the state of Israel … for having a government, for having a president who is genocidal,” Petro said.

“If Palestine dies, Humanity dies, and we will not let it happen,” he added.

When Israel began its war on Gaza in October last year, Pedro was the first leader of the Latin America who condemned Israel’s bombardments of Gaza and called its war a genocide.

Petro also accused Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant of using language similar to what the “Nazis said of the Jews” after Israeli defence minister said that they are fighting “human animals” in Gaza.

Subsequently, Israel stopped sending “security exports” to Colombia.
