Srinagar: PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti stated on Thursday that the BJP would end the constitution if re-elected to power at the center.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of a public meeting, she mentioned that the BJP is focusing on anti-Muslim rhetoric and discussing topics like ‘mangalsutra’ because they sense a loss in the initial two phases of the Lok Sabha elections in the country.
She said that people are aware of their intentions in raising “religious issues” and have realized that the party won’t do anything better for the country and its people.
“BJP only knows how to make Hindus and Muslims fight each other,” she said. She further stated that if the BJP is re-elected to power at the center, it will end the constitution.
Responding to a query, the PDP president mentioned that the occurrences of encounters in the Anantnag-Rajouri belt are intended to prevent Mehbooba Mufti from reaching Parliament and people for voting.
“The Poonch attack is condemnable, but arrests being made afterward should be looked into by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who should issue directions to the forces to stop this arrest culture,” Mehbooba said.
She added that the police and administration should remain neutral in political matters and refrain from indulging in them.
“The police are preventing us from reaching out to people, but at the same time, they are supporting proxies of the BJP and thus curtailing our movement, which is a brazen violation of the guidelines set by the ECI,” she added.
