Mumbai, Feb 4 — The wingtips of two passenger aircraft operated by Air India and IndiGo scraped each other during ground movement at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday late evening. However, no injuries were reported.
According to inputs, the incident involved Air India flight AI 2732, bound for Coimbatore, and IndiGo flight 6E 791, which had just arrived from Hyderabad. While the Air India aircraft was stationary and awaiting take-off clearance, the IndiGo plane was taxiing after landing when the contact occurred.
Confirming the incident, an IndiGo spokesperson said, “The wingtip of our aircraft made contact with another airline’s aircraft while taxiing. All passengers are safe and were disembarked after the aircraft was parked. The aircraft is undergoing necessary maintenance inspections. Relevant authorities have been informed and the matter is under investigation.”
Air India said its aircraft sustained minor wingtip damage while positioned on the taxiway before departure.
“As a precautionary measure, the aircraft has been grounded for further technical checks. Passengers were safely disembarked, and alternate arrangements are being made to fly them to their destination at the earliest,” the airline said.
Airport sources said operations continued normally, though the two affected flights faced minor delays as safety protocols were carried out.
