Aghan Cleric Haqqani Killed By ISIS In Kabul Suicide Attack

A senior Afghan cleric known as a supporter of Taliban was killed on Thursday at his religious school in the Afghan capital Kabul by ISIS in a suicide attack. 

On its telegram channels, ISIS said the bomber had detonated explosive vest inside the office.
 
Rahimullah Haqqani is the most influential figures in Afghanistan, who had recently spoken publicly in favour of girls being allowed to attend school, had survived at least two previous assassination attempts -- including one in Pakistan in October 2020. 
 
In recent months, he also backed the right of girls to attend school.
 
"There is no justification in sharia to say female education is not allowed. No justification at all," he told the BBC in an interview in May.
 
The madrassa (religious school) of Sheikh Rahimullah was targeted today and as a result he and one of his brothers were martyred and three others were injured,* Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran told AFP, 
 
Earlier, Kabul officials said that only Haqqani was killed and four othere were injured. 
 
Government spokesman Bilal Karimi confirmed his death but did not offered further details.
 
Scores of Taliban officials took to social media to express their condolences. 
 
Since seizing power a year ago, the higher secondary educational institutions have been closed since the Taliban take over 
 
Taliban maintains that the higher educational institutions will open soon but women right activitists have criticised the prolonged closure with several women protesting.
