Srinagar: The all-party meet which was held to discuss the recent announcement by a chief electoral officer that the voting rights will be given to any Indian citizen including paramilitary forces who are ordinarily residing in J&K concluded on Monday with the National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah stating that they have hopes in the Indian Judiciary and the fight against the move will be fought in every way.

Addressing media at his Gupkar residence, Senior Abdullah said that the decision of giving voting rights to outsiders is totally unacceptable and if needed, we can approach court to oppose the move.

National Conference, Congress, People Democratic Party, Awami National Conference (ANC), Shiv Sena, CPI(M), JDU and Akali Dal were the parties who participated in the meeting, However, People’s Conference stayed aloof and addressed a separate press conference.

Dr Farooq said that he had convened the meeting to discuss the fall-out of recent announcement of EC about giving voting rights to non-J&K residents including labourers and security forces personnel.

“Due to this move, all the police force, government forces and non-local labourer have become more prone to militant attacks,” Abdullah said.

He said the 25 lakh number can tomorrow become 50 lakh or 1 Crore.

“In J&K whether it’s the Dogras, Kashmiris, Sikhs or others, all of the communities are losing their identity,” he said.

“Due to this development the J&K Assembly will be in the hands of outsiders,” he added.

He also said that he will invite leaders of national parties based in India in September and would talk to them about the prevailing situation in J&K.
