JKPM Announces Merger With AAP

Srinagar: Days after its “exit” from the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement has announced its merger with Arvind Kejriwal’s Aami Admi Party on Wednesday.

JKPM was founded by IAS officer Shah Faesal in 2019. The bureaucrat-turned-politician quitted politics in August 2020 following resignation from the party.

As per reports, JKPM president Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Khan and other officer bearers of the party joined AAP in New Delhi

The JKPM, which was launched with much fanfare, was pushed to the political margins of Kashmir politics after Shah Faesal and former MLA Javed Mustafa resigned from it.

In the 2020 DDC polls, JKPM was part of the PAGD but the party recently announced its disassociation from the conglomeration.

The JKPM and AAP have diametrically opposite stance on the loss of the autonomous status of J&K which was scrapped by the government of India in 2019.

While Kejriwal had supported the abrogation of Article 370, JKPM has challenged it in the Supreme Court.
