Kashmir: Rain in Plains, Snow in Higher Areas

Srinagar: Rainfall swept across parts of the plains in Kashmir, while higher elevations such as Gulmarg, Peer ki Gali, and Gurez experienced snowfall, as the extended weather forecast predicts continued wet conditions in Jammu and Kashmir until February 21st.
 
According to the meteorological department, Srinagar received traces of rain in the 24 hours leading up to 0830 hours and recorded a low of 5.8°C, compared to the previous night's temperature of minus 3.0°C. This was 4.8°C above the normal range for the Kashmir capital.
 
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 3.8°C against minus 1.0°C on the previous night and it was 3.9°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, the MeT official said.
 
Pahalgam recorded a low of 2.5°C against 0.7°C on the previous night and it was 6.9°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
 
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 5.0°C against 2.0°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 5.9°C for the place, the official said.
 
In north Kashmir, Kupwara experienced light rain showers and registered a low temperature of 2.4°C, compared to 3.3°C the previous night, aive normal by 2.6°C.
 
The official reported that Gulmarg received 3 cm of snow during this period, with the temperature dropping to minus 1.4°C from minus 1.2°C the previous night. This marked a deviation of 5.4°C above the normal range for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.
 
Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 13.0°C and it was above normal by 2.5°C.
 
Pir Panchal’s Banihal recorded a low of 7.0°C, and Chenab Valley’s Bhaderwah 2.4°C, he said.
 
The weatherman has forecast an “extended wet spell” in Jammu and Kashmir till the afternoon of February 21.
