Srinagar: A drop in temperatures was reported across various locations in the Kashmir Valley on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, with central Kashmir's Sonamarg recording the lowest at a bone-chilling minus 15.1 degrees Celsius.
As per the meteorological department, Sonamarg was the coldest place in Kashmir, registering a frigid temperature of minus 15.1 degrees Celsius. However, alternative reports indicate that Larnoo in Kokernag, Anantnag, surpassed even this, plunging to an icy -17.7°C.
Kashmir’s capital Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.3°C against 0.2°C on previous night, above normal by 0.4°C.
In South Kashmir, Qazigund, the gateway town of valley, recorded a minimum of minus 9.4°C against minus 0.4°C on the previous night and it was below-normal by 7.3°C.
While Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 11.9°C against minus 4.1°C on the previous night, below-normal by 5.8°C below normal, Kokernag, recorded a minimum of minus 9.4°C against 1.4°C on the previous night, below normal by 7.0°C.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara logged a low of minus 4.4°C against 0.7°C on the previous night, below-normal by 2.1°C.
Also, Gulmarg logged minus 12.0°C against minus 7.6°C on the previous night, below normal by 4.4°C for the world famous skiing resort.
Jammu recorded a minimum of 5.7°C and it was below normal by 2.7°C.
